What is 4D Ultrasound?
4D Ultrasound is the latest generation of scanning technology that adds a fourth dimension of time, allowing you to see your baby move in real-time. Combined with HD Live technology, it produces stunningly realistic images with lifelike skin tones.
While 3D shows still three-dimensional images, 4D adds movement so you can watch your baby yawn, stretch, smile and even suck their thumb!

The optimal window for a 4D scan is between 24-34 weeks. During this time, your baby has developed enough fat under the skin for clear facial features, while there's still enough space and amniotic fluid for the best quality images. 3D ultrasound assembles multiple 2D images into a static, photograph-like view of your baby. 4D adds the dimension of time, meaning you see your baby move in real time as you watch. Our 4D scans use HD Live technology, which gives the most realistic, lifelike images.
Between 24 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. Before 24 weeks your baby has too little fat for clear 4D facial features; after 34 weeks they often run out of room and curl up. Our sonographers will help you book at the optimal time for your pregnancy.
Our 4D Baby Scan is a 30-minute appointment with up to 10 minutes of actual 4D scanning. Our premium Luxury 4D Baby Scan includes a 15-minute extended scan time. Total visit, including warm welcome and review, is typically 30-45 minutes.
Yes. The 4D Baby Scan includes 2 A5 prints and 4 A6 prints, plus digital images delivered to your phone. Luxury 4D Baby Scan includes A3, A4, 2× A5 and 4× A6 prints, plus a free heartbeat bear and fridge magnet. Every scan also includes the digital images by email.
We offer a one-time complimentary re-scan, Monday to Friday, subject to availability, if your baby's position prevents us from capturing clear 4D images of the face. Our sonographers use various techniques to encourage baby to move during your appointment.
HD Live is the very latest evolution of 4D scanning technology. Standard 4D shows movement; HD Live adds advanced lighting and shading effects that make images dramatically more realistic and photograph-like. HD Live comes as standard on every 4D scan at Numi Scan Gateshead.
