The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care services in England. Established in 2009, the CQC ensures that hospitals, clinics, care homes, and other healthcare providers meet fundamental standards of quality and safety.
Similar to how Ofsted regulates schools, the CQC monitors healthcare providers to protect patients and ensure they receive safe, effective, compassionate, and high-quality care. All healthcare providers offering regulated activities in England must be registered with the CQC.
